Location: Located between North Carolina's piedmont and coastal plain areas, Fuquay-Varina is within a 3 to 4 hour drive of either the beautiful Atlantic Ocean beached or some of the highest most scenic mountains east of the Mississippi. Fuquay-Varina is located 20 minutes south of the Capital City of Raleigh. When Fuquay Springs and Varina incorporated as one town, it was the second twin city in North Carolina following Winston-Salem to do so. The town has two main streets, one in Fuquay and one in Varina, both main streets have undergone major changes to enhance their appearances, and to offer the community more choices in locally owned shops, services, and restaurants. Fuquay-Varina also has major chain stores, i.e. Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Kroger, Harris Teeter, Food Lion (3 stores), Aldi, Ruby Tuesday's, Applebee's, Golden Coral, and many more. 

Population: The population of Fuquay-Varina is estimated at 10,000. There are approximately 45,000 people within an eight-mile radius of the town. Wake County's population is estimated to be over 650,000 residents living in 12 municipalities and the county.

Climate: Fuquay-Varina's moderate climate provides for lengthy growing seasons and varied recreational opportunities. It has winter, spring, summer, and fall. Daily mean temperature is 60 degrees.

Government: The Town of Fuquay-Varina has a Council-Manager form of government with five commissioners serving four-year staggered terms. The mayor serves a two-year term. Regular meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the first Monday of each month and committees of the board meet the first Tuesday following the third Monday. Meetings are open to the public. The Town Hall is located at 1300 East Academy Street.

Taxes: Rates effective July 1, 1995; last year of revaluation, 1992. Manufacturer's real property tax based on effective rate/$100 of actual value. City: $0.59; County: $0.63

Utilities: Progress Energy (electricity); Public Service Gas of NC/PSNC (natural gas); Sprint (telephone & DSL); Time Warner (cable TV  & high speed internet service); Town of Fuquay (water/sewer) along with other town services.

Recreation: The Fuquay-Varina Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources and the Fuquay-Varina Athletic Association provide year-round programs in sports. Area activities include tennis, swimming, soccer, softball, basketball, aerobics, and theatre among others. Senior activities are also available. Fuquay has two gyms for those wanting organized exercise.

Bentwinds Country Club, Hidden Valley Golf Course, Devils Ridge Golf Club, and Crooked Creek Golf Club all provide challenging golf courses along with many more quality courses in the area.

Education: The Fuquay-Varina area schools are part of the Wake County Public School System, one of the largest in the nation. Our local schools include five elementary schools (including one magnet school and one year-round school), two middle schools (including one year-round school), and one high school; several within the city limits. Fuquay Varina has an excellent reputation for quality schools, and highly qualified teachers.

Churches: The steeples of many denominations call the faithful to worship and their open doors invite others to join them. The many Protestant churches and a vibrant Catholic Church in the area serve to strengthen the spiritual heart of the community and surrounding areas.

Libraries: The Fuquay-Varina branch of the Wake County Library is located at 133 S. Fuquay Avenue.

Medical Facilities: Fuquay-Varina is home to Southern Wake Skilled Facility and Neurological Rehab Unit which is located at 400 Ransom Street near downtown. Southern Wake is a division of Wake Medical Center.

Media: The Fuquay-Varina Independent (weekly newspaper). The Raleigh News & Observer (daily newspaper). The Local radio station is WEEB/WCRY 1460 AM.

Financial Institutions: There are seven or more commercial banks in Fuquay-Varina, one savings and loan association and two credit unions.

Civic Clubs: Enthusiasm and community spirit are obvious throughout the town. Community pride is demonstrated through the involvement of over 45 civic clubs and organizations in the area.
